Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do I have to be a U.S. citizen or some other status to volunteer for a campaign?
Answer: Citizenship or any other status is not required to volunteer for a campaign. Any person regardless of status can volunteer for a campaign.

Question: Am I expected to make a commitment to join a campaign at the event?
Answer: Yes, we expect that all accepted participants are attending this event to sign up at this event to start volunteering for a campaign of their choice.

Question: Why is the location not mentioned in the advertising?
Answer: The exact address in downtown Seattle will be provided to applicants as soon as they are accepted.

Question: How old do I have to be to volunteer for a campaign?
Answer:  Most campaigns don’t have a set minimum age to volunteer.  You may have even heard about Weston Imer, a 12 year old boy in Colorado who is volunteering with Donald Trump’s campaign in Colorado.  Watch the video here:  So people of all ages are welcome.  The only limits are your passion and drive to work hard! 

Question: How long do I have to volunteer?
Answer: We are seeking applicants who can volunteer consistently from September until November. Campaigns need a lot of help between now and the final election date, so this is the time get so that you can get inside knowledge and lots of valuable political and media skills and get your foot in the door to a career in politics.

Question: Why do we need to have this event and why get Muslims to volunteer for campaigns?
Answer: In order for American Muslims to build political expertise and making politics work for our communities, community members have to get involved in the politics in large numbers.  Volunteering for campaigns is a great way to get inside knowledge and valuable political and media skills and get your foot in the door to a career in politics and start changing how media and politicians talk about our communities!  This event is important because it is designed have local Muslims take that first step at this event and start volunteering to start learning exactly how they can make a real difference in media and politics.

Question:  Will you only have Democrats or only Republicans there? 
Answer:  We will ensure that campaigns of both parties are present and that both candidates in any given race are present.  Our goal is to ensure that American Muslims are involved in both parties so that both parties see that they have to work hard to early our community members’ votes, and so that very soon, local Muslims continue to volunteer/intern at political offices and work their way up to decision making positions, to ensure that American Muslims have a voice in both parties. 

Question: What kind of volunteer positions are available in the campaigns?
Answer:  Campaigns are looking to fill many positions! Some examples are: volunteers to make phone calls to voters, to visiting voters in your neighborhood, to IT and web design, data entry and much more!

Question: Will there be day care?
Answer: Childcare is not available, however if you have a young child that needs supervision, you are welcome to bring them with you.

Question: I’m finding that my beliefs don’t align with some candidates, what should I do?
Answer:  The goal of this effort is to use this year’s election to have a large number of local Muslims get real experience in how to make a difference in politics.  You’ll find that while no one candidate is perfectly aligned with all of your views, there are many candidates whose platform doesn’t conflict with your views and additionally many of your views may be aligned and you can choose to sign up at the event to volunteer for that campaign

Question: Will there be food?
Answer: Yes! We will serve a delicious breakfast for those who arrive early, by 9:30 AM before the event begins.
